33 Weeks Update

33 Weeks Update — a Modern Mrs.
Well, we have a lot of catching up to do. I suppose the best thing to do would be to go through the weekly details, then fill you in at the end. Yeah, let's do that.

Stretch Marks: Still rockin' the same ole's!

Belly Button: Still flat. I don't think it's going to pop....

Linea Nigra: {That's the dark line down the front of your belly.} Remember last week when I said I thought I saw one? Well, I didn't. It must've been a line from my shirt or something, because there isn't anything going on now.

Clothes: No snugger than they were last week, but I did buy some new bras at Motherhood Maternity yesterday. I went to get nursing bras for when E is born, but honestly, those suckers are so darn comfy I'll probably start wearing them as soon as they're washed. If you're wondering, I purchased the Sports Clip Down Nursing Bra and Wrap Nursing Sleep Bra. Motherhood is having a buy three, get one free sale, and I needed two sizes of each, so I enjoyed the deal. {They're offering this sale online, too, so if you need some nursing bras.... Oh, and don't forget to go through Ebates to earn 2.5% cash back on your purchase!}

Heartburn: It has returned! And you know what? I ain't even mad. Right around the time it disappeared E's growth slowed down. It recently came back, and we discovered she had gained some weight, so while I'm not saying it definitely has anything to do with that, I'll gladly take the heartburn if that means she's gaining some weight!

This past week: A lot went down. See below for details. Other than that, we had Labor and Delivery class this past Saturday, and it went really well. It was primarily a PowerPoint presentation with a tour of the L&D floor, but J learned a lot and I got to find out more about what this hospital's policies are.

Nursery Progress: At a standstill until after this weekend. I have my last two baby showers on Saturday and Sunday, and I'm hoping we'll be able to wrap things up after that!

Overall: I really need to get my "go bag" finished. Hubs gets paid this Friday, so I'll grab some of our last minute items then, because I'm not sure we'll be able to do it with the next check, and that'll be cutting it close to possible induction time anyway. Aside from that, E has been in position since {at least} last Friday. While she's been head down for a month now, she's facing my back now, and has pretty much stayed that way since we saw her Friday. She has been hanging really low, which is terribly uncomfortable, and consistently jabbing my right side with her tiny foot. She's definitely a busy girl!

Coming Up: Another doctor's appointment today {non-stress test}, another on Friday {ultrasound}, a growth check next week, baby showers this weekend, and counting down till we meet our baby girl!

Baby E catch up time...

Okay, so we really left off with the 31 Week Update, which was when we were told I had IUGR and would begin the twice weekly check-ups. The 32 Week Update offered no new info per se, but that was because I hadn't been seen by my doctor's at that point. So, here's what went down from last Tuesday until yesterday:

Last Tuesday I went in for my non-stress test, and had mentioned I was having some back pain and pressure down there. The two together concerned my midwife that I may be at risk for pre-term labor, so she ordered a special test that I had to take to the local hospital to run. They ran another non-stress test there at the hospital while I waited, and the test came back negative. Phew. Fast-forward to Friday when I went in for my weekly ultrasound, and we discovered Miss E had gained 6 ounces! Now, I have been told there's a 10% margin of error with these weight checks, but either way, she had gained something, and I considered that a small victory. I spoke with the doctor about nutritional supplementation with hopes it would help E's growth, and she recommended Ensure shakes. She said it hadn't been documented to help, but it couldn't hurt to try. I have been drinking a shake a day since. Upon checking out I was offered a chance to get a second opinion of my situation by a specialist for Monday {yesterday}, and decided it couldn't hurt, so I made an appointment.

Enter yesterday; the appointment with the specialist. I'll begin by stating it went well. The specialist didn't seem concerned and had some comforting things to say, but we did discover E has a two-vessel umbilical cord instead of the standard three. This alone could be the cause of her growth issue, but we won't know for sure until the placenta is delivered. I'll be discussing her cord with my doctor at today's appointment. Other than that, her belly measured nicely, which he {the specialist} said wasn't typical in IUGR babies, and he also measured her at 4 lb. 1 oz. and placed her in the 11th percentile. {Friday she was said to be 3 lb. 6 oz. and the third percentile. But, again, margin of error.... I suppose.} Even with the margin of error, she still appears to have gained even more, and looks to be thriving despite her lack of a vital vessel. I firmly believe the shakes are helping. We concluded the appointment with instruction that I would be evaluated around 35 weeks to see if I would need to be induced at 37 or be allowed to continue to 40 weeks, but that I would definitely not be allowed to go past my due date. So there's that.

So, that's where we are as of today. She's gained weight, which is an answer to prayer. She's still healthy despite the growth issue, which is a miracle. The specialist seemed optimistic, which is a relief. All we can do is watch and wait.
