Deal of the Day: Banana Republic Layering Pieces

Banana Republic is one of my most favorite places to shop. They offer high-quality, classically-styled pieces that last for years and have a great selection of petite sizes that fit me like a glove, but they're definitely on the pricier end of my budget scale and thus, I rarely shop there. When I do, I definitely hit up my local Banana Republic outlet - I have a handful of pieces I've purchased from there, but even then I shop only when there's a sale or when I have a coupon.

These past several days I've seen a few BR emails hit my inbox, but they really weren't share-worthy in the sense that most people wouldn't have a chance to take advantage. So, you can imagine my excitement when I got an email with a sale that's lasting longer than a day! {Though the extra discount isn't...} For a limited time Banana Republic is offering some layering tops for $30 or less, and they're recommending some blazers to pair with your purchases that are also on sale. Pair these sales with the 35% off "BRSAVE35" promo code that ends today (1/29) and the 2% cash back from Ebates, and you've got yourself a deal!

Layering pieces are key to a well-rounded wardrobe. Wear your tops alone for some seasons, pair those same tops with a blazer, cardigan, dress, etc. for other seasons or events, etc. You can get a lot of use from a few tops if you plan them well, such as neutral colors and/or timeless prints. The idea is to have basic "wardrobe staples", then add a few trendy pieces here and there to stay current, but you always, always want those basic staples for when trends pass and to keep your bank account happy! With that in mind, I'd like to share with you some of my picks from the sale:

Floral V-Neck Top in Camel ($29.50). I chose the Camel color over the Fall Navy because I imagined this top could get more mileage this way... think vibrant Spring hues of pink, mint and coral. Think Fall shades of navy, hunter green and red. Layer it with a cardigan and some skinnies for a casual look, or dress it up with a blazer and skirt.

Twist Neckline Top in Cocoon ($30). This top is also available in black, and I have the no strong feelings over either shade. Both are neutral, key layering pieces that will take you from season to season. If you can, purchase both! I chose this top because it's the definition of "wardrobe staple" to me - great for any occasion!

Engineered Stripe Tee in Cocoon ($30). When I look at this top, I picture light wash, cuffed boyfriend jeans, or tailored khakis/chinos with a scarf and some aviators. Right? Seconded by a dressier look like this image, paired with a navy blazer like the one below!

Pique One-Button Blazer in Fall Navy ($89.50). The blazers are definitely creeping up into I don't know about this... territory, but like I said, a smart purchase will pay for itself by lasting you years. The 35% off discount will certainly soften the blow, but me personally, I'd wait for this baby to go down a little. If it did, I would swoop in and snatch it up, because this blazer is classy and feminine, and you should definitely have at least one navy, one black, and one khaki-like-colored blazer in your wardrobe!

Textured Knit Lady Jacket in Camel ($98). Insert khaki-like-colored blazer! This one is very Chanel-esque, don't you think? I wouldn't touch the $98 price tag, but this and the Pique One-Button Blazer were the least expensive picks from the available bunch. Pricey, but timeless!

Love 'em? Leave 'em? How would you style 'em?
