What if I told you no matter how horrid, stuck-on, or smelly your microwave was, you can get it clean with just two ingredients, neither of which are a commercial cleanser? I can imagine the look you're giving me right now. Trust me... I'm not crazy. This concoction really does work! Let me tell you about it.

Whether you use your microwave a lot or a little, regardless of whether you take the extra measures to reduce splatter, your microwave will undoubtedly become horror-movie-material in a short amount of time. (Especially if your kids use the microwave. Sheesh!) While I knew mine wasn't pristine, I didn't think it was a disgusting mess either. That was until I came across a recipe on Pinterest (there are several, so I can't credit just one) for a quick and easy homemade microwave cleaner.

Quick and easy? You're speaking my language!

I decided to give it a try, because I had the ingredients on-hand. The method sounded amazing — mix, microwave, wipe. Let's be honest... none of us want to be cramming our heads in our microwaves scrubbing off the baked on bits of who-knows-what.

So, did it work? See for yourself!

Looks like a brand new microwave, doesn't it? I admit, the recipe didn't do this all by itself. It needed a little assistance from a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but that was only needed on the really stubborn spots. The bulk of the work was done with the simple how-to below.

Microwave Deep Clean Mixture

  • 1 Microwave-Safe Bowl
  • 2 cups of Water
  • 2 tablespoons of White Vinegar
Place ingredients in the microwave-safe bowl and microwave for five minutes. The steam from the water will break down the food particles, and the vinegar will clean and deodorize. Afterwards, grab a rag or paper towel, and wipe clean. It's as simple as that! (Unless yours is as dirty as mine was; then you may need the help of Mr. Clean.)

  4. You're very welcome! I definitely agree. The cost of one $1.00 bottle of vinegar can be spread across several recipes and still have some leftover!
